In 2019, I travelled to just one city in Morocco— Marrakech—but it was more than enough to leave a lasting impression. At the time, I was balancing life as a young mother and a full-time legal career at an international firm, so extended travel wasn’t in the cards. Still, even in that brief window, Marrakech unfolded like a dream—layered, luxurious, and unlike anywhere I’d been.
If I had to describe it in one word? Sensory.
Every corner of Marrakech felt alive. From the ornately decorated glass teacups to the scent of spices winding through the souks, this was a place that delighted every sense. And although it’s hard to narrow the experience down to just one highlight, there are a few standout moments that still live vividly in my memory.

First, the architecture of the riads took my breath away. These beautifully restored townhouses felt like secret sanctuaries—tall ceilings, open-air courtyards, tiled pools at their centre, and décor that danced between elegance and artistry. Staying in a riad wasn’t just a hotel experience—it was a cultural immersion wrapped in velvet and brass.
Second, the hammam spa ritual. This is something I now believe every traveler should experience at least once. Picture this: a grand tiled chamber, warm and echoing with stillness, where your body is gently exfoliated and washed in a centuries-old tradition that leaves you both glowing and grounded. It was more than a spa—it was a reset.
And then there was the food. Fragrant tajines slow-cooked to perfection. Fresh mint tea served with grace in mosaic-tiled restaurants glowing with lantern light. The textures, the tastes, the tableware—all of it was pure theatre for the senses.
I didn’t venture far beyond the city on this trip—time didn’t allow. But Marrakech contained multitudes. In a single day, I could move from a serene riad to a bustling souk, from a rooftop lunch surrounded by ochre rooftops to an elegant evening stroll through candlelit courtyards. What surprised me most, however, was how safe I felt. At one point, I left my luggage with a stranger in the souk—a local vendor I trusted instinctively. That kind of ease is a rare luxury in today’s world.
If I were to curate one unmissable experience for Konemai guests, it would absolutely be the hammam. You can’t find anything like it just anywhere, and in Morocco, the setting makes it unforgettable. The tilework, the ritual, the hospitality—it all speaks to a type of grounded luxury I’ve come to value deeply.
What makes Morocco so special, and why I would recommend it to anyone choosing between destinations, is its unique blend of proximity and variety. It offers an incredible range of experiences: ancient cities and modern design, desert dunes and beachfronts, marketplaces and Michelin-worthy cuisine.

It’s textured, safe, stylish—and it somehow manages to feel both opulent and intimate at the same time.
Morocco reminded me that luxury doesn’t always mean excess. Sometimes, it means being immersed so completely in beauty and culture that your whole self feels seen. Marrakech offered me that—and it’s why I now offer it to others through Konemai.
